Criterion E: Evaluate
I enjoyed learning about creating career plans and taping a university entrance video. Overall, I think that my result, which was a video, turned out quite well. I managed to include necessary information without making it too long. While editing my video, I figured out how to use Windows Movie Maker and managed to create a well thought out video. Although there was one word cut off near the end of the video, no matter how much I tried to edit it, it wouldn’t be heard clearly. I also think I could have filmed the clips all at the same time, so that the lighting didn’t change from clip to clip. For an official university entrance video I would try to find a better camera in record with so that my voice doesn’t sound fuzzy or as if I am sick. When I first started filming I had to repeat filming clips because I kept messing up and didn’t feel comfortable talking to a camera. I would probably find it better as a person to person interview with the school, but I understand that sometimes colleges require an entrance video.
I received feedback from Reeza and Jill. They both agreed that the video was good, except in the beginning they thought it was annoying that I shook my head to one side. They said that my pronunciation was clear and I included everything that they thought was necessary. Jill said I sounded like I was sick, but she thought it was the microphone on my webcam. Overall, they thought it was good and not many improvements were suggested.
Criterion A: Investigate (Evaluation)
I found this step in the design cycle to be the hardest out of all the steps because it required you to actually think about your interests and discuss them. In real life, I don’t really think of them as hobbies, its just counted as part of what I do to entertain myself. I’m also more of a personal person and do not like to talk about all my interests in detail. For example, jewelry making, is a hobby of mine, but not many people know about it and I don’t feel comfortable describing in detail why I enjoy it and count it as one of my interests. I’m not sure why I don’t like to, but it’s always nice, in my opinion, to keep some things to yourself that you like to do alone. You were supposed to come up with roughly ten interests and describe why you like them and enjoy them. In the end, I only came up with eight after long thinking. I could have improved by giving at least two more interests and describing all of my hobbies in more detail. While I was completing criterion A, one person asked me why a lot of school subjects were listed as some of my interests. I think it is necessary to be interested in some school subjects, otherwise how are you going to figure out what type of job you want. For example, my strongest subjects are in math and science, so I would try and find an occupation that uses these subjects. Overall, I think it was tough to talk about my interests, but it showed me in a clearer picture of what I was interested in and how it can help me to figure out my future.
Criterion B: Design (Evaluation)
For the design step, we were required to choose an occupation that we would like to do when we are older and figure out what education we need to get there. Also, we needed to find out what would make us successful in that particular business. For this step, I chose an Anesthesiologist because I have been thinking of working in the medicine industry and would like a job that deals with pain. I thought this was the perfect job for what I wanted to do because you get to inject the patients with strong pain medication to relieve their pain. I joined this step with the create step because they were roughly the same. I thought I did a good job on researching for design and I learned a lot of new things on how to reach my future career goal.
Criterion D: Create (Evaluation)
I think I enjoyed this step out of all the other required steps, which included investigate and design. For this I just followed the sample career plan, but created mine about what I have to do in order to become an Anesthesiologist. Personally, I think I did well during this step, but I possibly could have described more in detail of what I have to do. I found it interesting trying to find a college or university suitable to obtain the degrees I need to become a certified Anesthesiologist. Although I found out that I would need to be at school for a long time, I think I am willing to be committed to this to reach my career goal. Overall, I think I specified clearly what requirements and experience I had to have in order to become an Anesthesiologist.
Impact on my life
I think this was a good unit to learn more about reaching your career goals and what you have to do in order to get there. We also learned more about making an entrance video and got to get familiar with what colleges ask and look for, such as volunteer work or interesting hobbies. This will help us later in life to find a suitable college for our needs and help us to realize what type of degrees we need to obtain. Before making an official university entrance video, I think it was good to have the practice with filming and editing the videos, as well as choosing which program we should use.

Develop/Create: Develop and Write a Career Plan
Career Goal: to be in the medicine industry
More Specific: Orthopedic Surgeon, Rheumatologist, Anesthesiologist, or Physical Therapist
v Anesthesiologist
· Requirements:
o Education - Most of these occupations require graduate school. For example, they may require a master's degree, and some require a Ph.D., M.D., or J.D. (law degree).
o Training - Employees may need some on-the-job training, but most of these occupations assume that the person will already have the required skills, knowledge, work-related experience, and/or training.
o Experience - Extensive skill, knowledge, and experience are needed for these occupations. Many require more than five years of experience. For example, surgeons must complete four years of college and an additional five to seven years of specialized medical training to be able to do their job.
o Source: http://mappingyourfuture.org/planyourcareer/careership/career_summary.cfm?careerID=364&headerImage=_career_summary
· My Skills and Interests:
o Being in a lot of pain myself, I can sympathize with those in agony and will be able to take it all away from injecting strong pain medication.
o I know the procedure of the injection and what you have to do after the surgery or medical procedure. In this case, you have to monitor the patients before, during, and after the procedure. We all know that complications may arise.
o I’m interested in the medicine industry, especially the occupations to deal with pain.
o I have seen how it is done from relatives being in the hospital for medical procedures and surgeries.
· Plan to reach career goal:
o Bachelor’s degree: Hawaii Pacific University
o Intern at a hospital in Honolulu, Hawaii (near the university)
§ Examples: Leahi Hospital, Maluhia Hospital, or Kapi’olani Hospital
o Get a part time job somewhere in the medial industry for medical experience
o Go to college for graduate school and obtain a master’s degree

Career Planning
Career Planning
Criterion A: INVESTIGATE
· Think about your interests:
- I have an assortment of interests, some of them more recent than others. In my own time, I take pleasure in learning about animal anatomy and behavior, to be more specific the dog, making jewelry, singing, painting crafted items, such as wooden boxes, and when in Macon, being in the outdoors. At school I enjoy math, science, physical education (although I am not able to do so right now), and humanities.
- 10 (8) Activities I enjoy:
1) sports and exercising in general
2) math
3) science
4) history or humanities
5) training dogs
6) singing
7) making jewelry
8) outdoor activities
1) Sports and exercising in general
- I find doing sports and exercise relaxing, fun, and enjoyable. Just recently I am counted as medically unable to do sports. Every time you play a sport, you always learn something new and it was a regular challenge to play your best. I think just the adrenaline rush of playing sports is enough satisfaction to make it one of my favourite activities.
2) Math
- Although math can sometimes be tough, I find it useful in life and depending on what it is, fun. I find math to be a necessity for my future. This is one of my best subjects in school and I enjoy helping others learning hard math concepts. Math is all around us and it can be useful in almost any situation, which is why it is counted as an activity I enjoy.
3) Science
- Science is not always enjoyable, but overall it becomes handy and useful. Science involves math, so those classes go together and use each other. Once again, this is another of my best subjects and I plan to use both science and math for my future career, which is why I think I should enjoy doing these activities. I like hands on activities and so this is one of the few classes which you get to experiment rather than reading a text book over and over. In science there are always new concepts and things to learn, so you can never be too good at science. I think part of why I like this activity is that its on going learning and science surrounds us everywhere.
4) History or Humanities
- Compared to math or science, I don’t enjoy this subject a lot, but I thought it would be enough to count it as one of the activities I enjoy. As everyone knows or says, history shapes our future, so I think it’s a necessity to know some history. My brothers both love learning about history, especially WWI and WWII, so I think I’m kind of tied in to liking it as well. It’s not such a bad thing to know and I do enjoy it somewhat just because it’s good to know what has happened in the past.
5) Training dogs/learning about behavior etc.
- This is a topic that I can go on and on about. It has also been a topic that I have loved and enjoyed over many years (probably the activity that has been around the longest). I think animals in general are quite fascinating and its fun to learn about their anatomy and figure out why they do the things they do. I’ve trained most dogs in our extended family and I have a stack of dog books all about their anatomy and behavior. People sometimes say im obsessed with them, but I just count it as a passion as mine that I enjoy very much.
6) Singing
- Although I have never sang in public except once or twice, I enjoy this much more than people know. A lot of my free time includes singing and I enjoy music in general. I think it gives me adrenaline and makes me happy in general. For this activity I don’t really know why I enjoy it, but I do.
7) Making jewelry
- This activity will count as my art activity. I haven’t been too interested in it lately, but for the past few years I have learned many new techniques. I think I enjoy making jewelry because it is something I am good and capable of doing. Also, I can wear it and its unique and one-of-a-kind.
8) Outdoor Activities
- In Macon, Georgia, I enjoy going out in the woods behind my house. There is all kinds of wildlife and also a creek. I love going down to the creek with my brothers and jumping in the water or climbing rocks. I may seem a bit old for this, but I find it enjoyable and fun. Since my brothers also like outdoor activities, it gives me some time to spend with my brothers because we never really do that much together.
Careers I have been thinking about:
1) Optometrists: Diagnoses and treats the human visual eye system. I think I would enjoy this because it is a fascinating and it involves science, one of my favourite subjects.
2) Physical Therapist: Help to rehabilitate patients to relieve them of pain, help make them more mobile, or increase strength. I think I would enjoy this because I have gone to physical therapy for 9 months and I believe I would enjoy their job helping others.
3) Pharmacist: Give patients medication from their prescriptions. I know someone who is a pharmacist. I have no reason for wanting to do this, but I believe I would enjoy it.
4) Anesthesiologist: Gives patients strong pain killers and puts them to sleep before surgery and other medical procedures. I would enjoy this occupation because I have been in a lot of physical pain, so I would like to take people out of theirs.
5) Rheumatologist: a doctor who specializes in treating joint pain. Just like the anesthesiologist occupation I would like to be a rheumatologist because it deals with joint pain, which all goes back to my joint pain.
6) Orthopedic Surgeon: a surgeon of the bones. This one deals with bones as well and I think it would be a fun occupation.
I have enjoyed being part of soccer teams at Northbridge International School of Cambodia (NISC), Mount de Sales Academy (MDS), and the International School of Ulaanbaatar (ISU). I also spent one season on the basketball team at the International School of Brussels (ISB). Other after school activities have included photography (ISU), backstage (ISU), fruit carving (NISC), candle-making (NISC), guitar lessons (NISC) and gymnastics (ICS and NISC). I have also learned to play a number of musical instruments including the piano, the flute, and the violin. For the past 8 years I have studied French and here and there I have also taken language courses in Spanish, Khmer, Mongolian, and Arabic. I love studying animals and their behavior, to be more specific the dog, and I have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel of my own. Other interests of mine are travelling and making jewelry.
My volunteer work has consisted for raising funds for piglets to be given to poor families in Cambodia, and also visiting and playing at an orphanage with HIV positive children. At Mount de Sales Academy I helped raise funds for a diaper drive, different orphanages, and buying canned foods to be given to a homeless shelter. I also took part in fundraising for service trips at the International School of Brussels, including one to the Ukraine, where the students would help construct and paint orphanage buildings.

My Script
April 1st E! Today
Host: Welcome to E! Today, an exciting celebrity program which brings you the latest gossip! I am Chelsea Handler and I will be your host on this fantastic spring day, April 1st, 2010. Have you heard the latest news? (Referring to the viewers)
“Audience” (recorded scream): NOO!
Host: You haven’t? Well, I will be updating you about all the dirt I have on Borachio! Sooo (trying to hold the suspense longer)...the scoop is that Borachio, Conrade, and Don John plotted a scheme against Claudio and Hero to put their wedding into shambles. Oooo (excited tone of voice), guess what? Our phones are ringing off the hook! Let’s take a call from Becky Andola from Arkansas. Please go ahead!
Becky Andola: Yes, I was (quizzical voice) wondering… I heard Margaret was involved in this mischief. Is this true?
Host: Well, actually she had no idea what she was drawn into that night on Hero’s balcony. It is known that Borachio and Margaret have a little something something smiling and cheerful voice going on with one another.
Becky Andola: O ok. Awesome! For a moment there I actually believed the Gossip! Magazine.
Host: Yes, that magazine can be unreliable at times. (Giggles a little. Smiling.) Anyways, back to business! It is now known, only the truth on E! Today, that the night before their wedding Claudio was taken to see “Hero” (showing the inverted comas with her fingers) and another man together. Although this ended up being false, Claudio did not (says the word “not” with emphasis) find out until after he disgraced Hero at the altar.
Host: So, we have an awesome video recorded by one of the “villains,” Conrade, leaked onto YouTube. Please watch and enjoy this clip of Borachio, Conrade himself, and Don John talking about creating mischief upon the intended marriage.
Video Clip Playing:
Conrade (while holding the camera): So, this is documentary day 1 of the great Borachio, Don John, and I! (Should sound forceful, strong, and somewhat evil)
Don John: What’s new, Borachio?
Borachio: I’ve just had a wonderful dinner hosted by Leonato, which your brother also attended. I have some news on an upcoming marriage.
Don John: I wonder… can we have some fun with this?
--Pause Video Clip—
Host: Hear that? Mimicks… “can we have come fun with this?” Wow, that’s a shocker!
Video Clip Playing:
Don John: Who’s marrying who?
Borachio: Well… Claudio and Hero, who is the daughter of Leonato.
Don John: Hmmm… Interesting. How did you hear this?
Borachio: As I was alone, I spotted the Prince and Claudio in deep conversation. I quickly hid behind the furniture and overheard their talk on how the Prince will court Hero and then give her to Claudio.
Don John: Come, come… I can teach that youngster a lesson. It is my duty and my pleasure to do so. Will you both assist me?
Conrade: Of course, Don John!
Don John: Let us attend the dinner! If I look sad, they will feel happy, while I’m developing a devious plan.
--Video Clip stops—
Host: So, as you can see from this YouTube clip, it is clear that Borachio, Conrade, and Don John want to create havoc! Let us take another call from the viewers!
Host: Hello, um…Lindsey Scott from Florida, what is your question or comment?
Lindsey Scott: Heyy! I just can’t believe this is exactly what happened! (Shocked voice) I think it’s outrageous that anyone would think of such a thing, but if it had to be anybody, count on Don John to think of it!
Host: Thank you for your comment and I am quite sure other people doth think the same! (Chuckles) Stay tuned for the rest of the scoop…We will be right back after the break!
--Advertisements playing—
Host: And here we are again, back to the latest scandal! I have some more juicy gossip to be watched, so let’s continue.
Video Clip Playing:
Don John: The truth is revealed! Claudio will marry Hero, Leonato’s daughter.
Borachio: Yess! Let’s make more mischief on this!
…
Conrade: Dude, Don John...Borachio, the camera ain’t working no more! (A few laughs)
--A few minutes later the camera taping works—
Borachio: We will make this wedding a shambles. We will tell Don Pedro and Claudio to tell them Hero loves me. I’m sure they will fall for our trickery no matter what, and if not… we will tell them to come to Hero’s balcony and they will see me calling Margaret as Hero! This will show Claudio she is a “disloyal brat” (evil laugh) that will stop this marriage.
Host: Do you see how this scandal is escalating? What kind of people do this! Apparently Borachio, Don John, and Conrade! Keep watching for the next video clip!
Video Clip Playing:
Claudio: Do you know of any impediment to this marriage? If so, tell me!
Don John: I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I have heard some interesting tid bits about your bride to be. You may think I don’t care about you, but truly, I am only thinking of your own good.
Don Pedro: Why, what’s the matter?
Don John: I came here to tell you, that Hero has betrayed you.
Claudio: Who, Hero?
Don John: Yes, everyone’s Hero.
Claudio: Disloyal?
Don John: Disloyal is too good to describe her behavior. See for yourself…come and watch her bedroom window tonight and when you see someone visiting her, see if you still want to marry her tomorrow.
Host: Everyone still can’t believe Claudio fell for this! How could he ever imagine sweet Hero committing such a sin!? Well, keep watching to find out if the scheme was taken through with. (smiles)
Video Clip Playing:
Borachio: Tonight, I courted Margaret, Hero’s maid. I called her Hero. Those who were watching, such as Don Pedro and Claudio, saw her lean out of Hero’s window and bid me goodnight over and over again.
--Video Clip jumps to last piece of evidence—
Conrade: Testing, Testing. Pheww it works!
Borachio (confessing to Don Pedro and Claudio): Don Pedro, let Claudio kill me for this. I deceived your eyes and everyone else’s. Dogberry and Verges, two fools may I add, overheard me confessing to Conrade how, following Don John’s plan, used Margaret in the name of Hero, to slander her. I am very sorry and wish to receive what a villain deserves.
Host: At least we know the truth and there you have it… full proof of this outrageous and hurtful scandal all caused by the evil Borachio, Conrade, and Don John! Goodnight and hope you enjoyed this exclusive segment of E! Today. I’m Chelsea Handler, your host, thanks for watching.
